NEED TO KNOW
Nevermore Academy is almost back in session — and death is in the air.
The second season of Tim Burton’s wildly popular dark comedy Wednesday is just around the corner, and Netflix just gave the first glimpse at the action-packed episodes to come in a new official trailer, released on July 9 (a Wednesday, of course).
Last time around, the titular Addams Family member, portrayed by Jenna Ortega, saved Nevermore by solving the mystery of the Hyde’s identity and putting a stop to the ferocious creature. This season, as her classmates and teachers laud her as a “savior,” Wednesday, true to form, rejects the heroic label — but she’s got bigger fish to fry.
When asked how it feels to return to the Gothic school — a place for outcasts with powers like sirens, werewolves and shifters — Wednesday declares, deadpan: “Like returning to the scene of the crime. … I already know where the bodies are buried.”

“Wednesday Addams, it is an honor to meet the savior of Nevermore,” says the new Nevermore principal, played by series newcomer Steve Buscemi. Meanwhile, fellow students clamor for her autograph and plaster her dormitory door with fan art, prompting a frustrated Wednesday to declare, “We need to set bear traps out here.”
But the Nevermore “savior” has more to grapple with than just her newfound clout, the trailer teases. In one of the character’s visions, a beloved character — her roommate and best friend, portrayed by Emma Myers — meets a grim fate.
“Enid dies and it’s all my fault,” Wednesday confides in her mom, Addams Family matriarch Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), who declares that she “will not let history repeat itself.”

“The sooner I get answers,” the macabre-obsessed teen says, “the sooner I can save Enid — or die trying.”
Along with her dark and prophetic visions, the brooding, braid-wearing protagonist will “navigate family, friends and old adversaries, propelling her into another year of delightfully dark and kooky mayhem” this season, an official synopsis teases. “Armed with her signature razor-sharp wit and deadpan charm, Wednesday is also plunged into a new bone-chilling supernatural mystery.”
Season 2 of the dark comedy will be released in two parts, with four episodes premiering on Netflix on Aug. 6, and the latter four hitting the streamer on Sept. 3. (Both Wednesdays, of course.)

Along with Buscemi, season 2 newcomers include Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter and Noah Taylor as series regulars. Returning cast members include Joy Sunday, Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Moosa Mostafa, Victor Dorobantu, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, Georgie Farmer and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo.
Guest stars for the season include Lady Gaga, Jamie McShane, Joanna Lumley, Thandiwe Newton, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo and Joonas Suotamo.
Plus, Fred Armisen will once again cameo as Uncle Fester, and, in a move sure to delight longtime Addams Family fans, Christopher Lloyd (who played the beloved bald character in 1991’s The Addams Family) will also guest star in the upcoming season.
