The Valley’s Jesse Lally is setting the record straight on costar Janet Caperna’s time in Switzerland.
During an interview on SiriusXM’s The Julia Cunningham Show on Tuesday, July 8, Lally confirmed that Caperna’s trip abroad with her husband Jason Caperna and their 18-month-old son Cameron was “a planned vacation” — not a dramatic escape from the social media backlash she’s faced, as been reported.
“One of my best friends lives in Zurich. They called me, and they were talking about summer vacations, talking about going to Switzerland, maybe Lake Como,” Lally said. “I was giving them some recommendations on where to go, put ’em in touch with my friend.”
“I mean, Switzerland would be a good place to flee to,” he added. “I would do that right now if I could.”
On the July 2 episode of her “This Side of the Hill” podcast, Caperna said she’s been receiving “disturbing” messages as the current season 2 of The Valley airs, so she decided to make her social media private.
“It’s gotten so dark and bad almost on a daily basis of threats and slurs and things that now I decided to make all of my social media completely private,” she said. “[I’m] being very cautious about what I share, especially about my family…If you’re feeling so bothered by [The Valley] that you’re using racial slurs and threatening people, reality TV is not for you.”
As of July 8, Caperna’s Instagram remains private.

In terms of the online hate, Lally said on The Julia Cunningham Show that Caperna is “really getting” the brunt of it right now.
“The thing about Janet, I think the reaction from the crowd is, ‘What do we know about Janet and Jason? What made Jason choose the law? What is this story with Janet’s past marriage? Where did she come from?'” Lally said. “All of those questions we don’t know the answers to because it’s just constant sort of involving yourself in other storylines instead of creating your own storyline. I think if there were these storylines, maybe there’d be some vulnerability with them.”
Lally added that “right now, people are just reacting to her constantly trying to be involved in these dramatic situations,” like the blowup between her and Kristen Doute at the L.A. restaurant El Coyote that aired during a recent episode.
“People are really drilling her with that one, and it’s true: She didn’t need to be involved in that conversation,” he said.
