NEED TO KNOW
Netflix just updated its menu with a fresh lineup of cooking shows.
The streaming platform announced on Tuesday, July 8, that the coming months will see new culinary series premiering and popular past shows returning.
Next Gen Chef, a brand-new unscripted show scheduled for a fall release, will take viewers inside the Culinary Institute of America, where 21 young students compete in “a rigorous gauntlet of tests to find who is worthy of being crowned the leading chef of the next generation,” according to a release Netflix shared with PEOPLE. The drama will unfold over eight 45-minute episodes.
Dinner Time Live with David Chang, which comes back for its third season in August, aims to counter the idea that “99% of all cooking on television and social media is a lie.”
The renowned chef will instead create a “live and unfiltered” culinary presentation on weekly episodes, with cohost Chris Ying.

“From his kitchen in downtown Los Angeles, David creates a customized dining experience in real time for his celebrity friends with no swap-outs, no stylists, and no edits,” reads the series’ official description. “It’s real cooking—mistakes and all.”
The interactive production also includes live Q&As and audience-driven decisions. Guests on previous seasons have included Lily Collins, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Rashida Jones, Wiz Khalifa, Ralph Macchio, John Mulaney, Mandy Moore, Ashley Park, Seth Rogen, Maya Rudolph and Sofia Vergara.
Baking enthusiasts will be glad to learn that three new themes of a fan-favorite series are in the works, all hosted by Saturday Night Live’s Mikey Day.
Is It Cake? Halloween, coming in the fall, promises “tricks and treats at every turn,” as bakers try to fool the celebrity judges with their “spooktacular realistic cakes.”

Is It Cake? Holiday returns for a second season, in which three Is It Cake? alums and three other star bakers compete for a $75,000 prize pot and a spot in the finale.
And an Is It Cake? Valentines special, debuting in February 2026, will feature three couples competing in brand-new games and making “swoonworthy” confections
Those aren’t the only food-focused shows to hit Netflix this year.
In April, the streaming giant premiered Chef’s Table: Legends, with culinary leaders Alice Waters, Jamie Oliver, José Andrés and Thomas Keller.
And in June, Everybody Loves Raymond creator Phil Rosenthal returned for season 8 of Somebody Feed Phil, which documented his culinary adventures through Amsterdam, Tbilisi, Sydney, Adelaide, Manila, Las Vegas, Guatemala, San Sebastian and Boston.
