It’s been 25 years since Regina Hall first charmed audiences as Scary Movie’s chatty, ditzy Brenda Meeks, and fans still quote her lines in the film to this day. The actress hosted a cookout with Bounty on June 25 in Los Angeles, and there, and shared her barbecue essentials and favorite scene from the spoof with PEOPLE.
Hall, 54, has positive memories of working with Keenan Ivory Wayans for the first time on the set of the 2000 classic.
“I’m such a huge fan of his,” Hall shares. “It was a dream to work with him because I learned so much. It’s very wonderful that even after 25 years audiences still resonate and laugh. I think that goes to the genius of Keenen and the Wayans [family]. They were able to be a part of that genre of filmmaking with parodies that people can still laugh at.”
While the movie included many iconic moments for Hall’s character Brenda, the actress cites her favorite as when Ray (Shawn Wayans) dresses Brenda in a football outfit. And 25 years later, fans still quote lines to Hall.

“I get a lot of, ‘Out of my face,’ ” Hall says with a laugh. “Or, ‘The TV’s leaking. Cindy, the TV’s leaking.’ ‘Your candid camera.’ It’s just different ones that people like. Even the dirty one with Ray. Kids quote that one. I’m like, ‘Oh my goodness, not the children! This can’t be what I left the children with?!’ ”
Scary Movie parodied popular horror films, reenacting scenes with humorous and imaginative tweaks from classics like Scream, The Blair Witch Project and I Know What You Did Last Summer. The main cast includes familiar names like Marlon and Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, Carmen Electra, Shannon Elizabeth and Dave Sheridan.
The movie was a major box office hit, grossing $278 million worldwide with an initial budget of $19 million. The commercial success spawned four sequels, with a fifth on the way.
“Even if you haven’t seen all the original movies that we’re spoofing, people of all walks of life and cultures, they love it,” Hall says. “That’s an honor. People love Brenda”

While speaking of her role in Scary Movie, Hall also notes her excitement to partner with Bounty for the summer barbecue season.
“I use Bounty,” Hall says. “It’s all over my house. You can’t have a cookout without great food and music. You got to clean up. If you don’t have it all, you shouldn’t have a cookout.”
“I can’t lie, I’m a paper towel girl, and I hate cheap paper towels,” she adds. “I like Bounty because it’s absorbent, durable and I can reuse it.”
