Despite a worrying opening, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina continues to climb Lionsgate’s charts. The fifth movie in the John Wick franchise, it follows ballerina Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) as she attempts to avenge her late father. Alongside Macarro, Keanu Reeves reprises his role as John Wick and helps Eve fight against the villainous Cult.
Ballerina is not the first spin-off in franchise history, coming after the TV show The Continental, but it is the first to reach theaters. As Lionsgate hopes to expand the franchise without involving Wick in every project, Ballerina is an experiment that features Reeves but avoids offering him a starring role. It was released on June 6.
According to a report by Deadline, the movie is expected to earn $2 million in its fourth weekend at the domestic box office. That represents a 55% drop from last week, but it also means that it will cross the $55 million mark by the end of this weekend. With that total, it would be the 44th highest-grossing film in Lionsgate’s history.
