NEED TO KNOW
Julia Michaels is grateful to have Maren Morris in her life.
The pair, who recently collaborated on “Scissors” together, are close friends, Michaels shared on a recent episode of PEOPLE in 10. Michaels, 31, and Morris, 35, have teamed up for multiple projects and even performed at Coachella together in April.
“She is truly one of the most wonderful women I’ve ever met in the music industry,” says Michaels. “She’s so down-to-earth, so humble, so kind. Such a girl’s girl, like always rooting for people that she loves.”
She adds, “I feel like it’s rare, but it’s really beautiful.”
Michaels couldn’t recall what exactly Morris’ last text to her was, but expected it was a message of encouragement and praise following their joint performance at Coachella.

The two artists released the “Scissors” music video on Jan. 10, where Michaels and Morris eventually castrate an ex with a pair of small scissors. The song, Michaels told Rolling Stone, is about being “unbothered” as a relationship meets its end.
“It’s about being nonchalant when a relationship fizzles, because, let’s be honest, most of them do,” Morris told the publication. “Not everything ends in heartbreak, but sometimes apathy and a lightheartedness, which sorely needs representation in breakup songs!”
“You wanna say goodbye, I’m not crying rivers/If you wanna cut ties, I’ll get the scissors, baby,” Michaels and Morris sing in the chorus. “I don’t mind, I’m not even bitter/If you wanna cut ties, I’ll get the scissors, baby.”
Less than a year earlier in June 2024, Michaels and Morris collaborated again for “Cut!” — a song on her five-track EP Intermission, which is about appearing picture-perfect and put-together and the unraveling that happens at the end of the day.
“It’s a cathartic release that doesn’t require secrecy, but there are worldly expectations to keep it together despite your feelings,” Morris said of the song. “This song gives me permission to fall apart.”
