NEED TO KNOW
Jerry Seinfeld is a bee-liever.
In honor of Bee Movie, the 2007 animated hit in which Seinfeld starred, the 71-year-old comedian shared an intriguing photo and caption on his Instagram on Sunday, June 8.
“Bee Movie, which came out nearly 20 years ago, is #4 on Netflix,” he wrote in a post showing a hand holding a tennis ball with a honey bee on it. In the next slide was the movie’s poster, an image of Seinfeld’s character Barry B. Benson similarly straddling a tennis ball.
“Today, my friend Spike Feresten, one of the writers on the film, was playing tennis and this happened,” continued Seinfeld.
“Clearly a sign,” he added cheekily. “Time for a live action sequel..?”

DreamWorks’ Bee Movie, which Seinfeld also produced and co-wrote with Feresten, Barry Marder and Andy Robin, earned a mixed reception from critics and box office success. It has since garnered a cult following, particularly on the internet where memes inspired by the comedy abound.
While a sequel may not be confirmed just yet, this isn’t the first time Seinfeld has toyed with the possibility of a live-action Bee Movie. During its promotion in 2007, the actor-writer dressed in a bee costume for a trailer costarring Steven Spielberg and during a high-wire stunt at the Cannes Film Festival.
He and costar Renée Zellweger also wore bee costumes to promote the film during a 2007 appearance on German show Wetten, dass..? (Let’s Make a Bet).

Bee Movie also featured the voices of Matthew Broderick, John Goodman, Chris Rock, Kathy Bates, Megan Mullally, Oprah Winfrey and several celebrities appearing as animated versions of themselves, including Larry King, Ray Liotta and Sting.
In May 2024, Seinfeld gave a commencement address to the graduating seniors at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina (alma mater of all three of his kids, who he shares with wife Jessica). “I made a cartoon movie about bees you may have watched as a child,” Seinfeld said in a video from an attendee shared on TikTok.
“If any of you felt slightly uncomfortable about the sexual undertones in the relationship between Barry B. Benson and Vanessa, the florist who saves his life, I would like to apologize for that now,” he quipped. “I may not have calibrated that perfectly.”
Seinfeld last directed, co-wrote and starred in the 2024 Netflix film Unfrosted.
