Fortune Feimster is taking life day by day.
Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE at the season 2 premiere of her show FUBAR at the Tudum Theater in Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 11, the comedian opened up about how she’s doing amid her ongoing divorce from estranged wife Jacquelyn “Jax” Smith.
“I’m all right. It’s life. These things happen and [I’m] just looking towards a new chapter and throwing myself into work and trying to make people laugh,” she said. “That’s where I get joy.”

The former couple announced their split in a joint statement posted to Feimster’s Instagram on June 2.
“Together, we have made the difficult decision to end our marriage,” the statement began, noting that they’d already been separated “for a little bit” dealing with “tough health situations” in their families.
“While we are sad to see this chapter of our lives come to a close, we wish each other nothing but the best as we move forward,” the statement continued. “We’ve had 10 years together, and there’s so much to celebrate about that and so much we will look back on fondly.”
Feimster and Smith met at a Chicago Pride event in June 2015 and got engaged in January 2018. They later married in October 2020.

In addition to her divorce, Feimster has also been dealing with her mother, Ginger, being diagnosed with a “rare and very aggressive” form of cancer.
The actress revealed in an Instagram post on May 18 that her mom was diagnosed with Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) bile duct cancer after doctors found a mass “the size of a small orange” on her liver.
Feimster said her mother was stage 2 and would begin chemotherapy and immunotherapy “soon,” despite it being incurable.
“People have been really lovely, and especially about my mom and wishing her well,” the Mindy Project alum said of her fans. “They’re sending her cards every day. It’s just a lot of people showing up for me in a really amazing way.”
Feimster said with it being 15 years after her television debut on Last Comic Standing in 2010, it’s been “nice to just get that love back” from her fans and experience “just the humanity of it all.”
“People want the best for you, and I want the best for people and, yeah, it means a lot.”
Fortune Feimster and Arnold Schwarzenegger attend Netflix’s Los Angeles premiere of “Fubar” Season 2 at Netflix Tudum Theater on June 11, 2025 in Los Angeles, California.
Despite the hardships she’s facing in her private life, Feimster said hanging out with FUBAR costar Arnold Schwarzenegger has been “so inspiring.”
“He’s a very motivational guy,” she gushed. “He will give speeches on set, getting people proud of what they’re doing, and he shows his appreciation … and looks them in the eye.”
Feimster plays Roo, a member of the CIA operative team led by Schwarzenegger’s Luke Brunner, on FUBAR. Other cast members include Monica Barbaro, Gabriel Luna, Jay Baruchel and more, with Matrix alum Carrie Ann Moss joining for season 2.
“He’s also really funny,” Feimster said of the action star. “I don’t think a lot of people know how much he loves comedy. He’s a big teaser. It’s fun to be around him.”
