The Tribeca Festival premiere of Miley Cyrus’ new film Something Beautiful — which accompanies her recently-released album of the same name — was interrupted by hecklers who wanted to hear the star sing.
The actress and singer, 32, premiered her new project at the Beacon Theater during the annual New York City event on Friday, June 6.
At one point, while she was onstage taking part in a Q&A with producer Panos Cosmatos and co-directors and co-writers Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter, audience members yelled at Cyrus to perform.
“We paid $800. Sing,” one attendee screamed, as another later shouted, “We thought this was a concert.”
Cyrus ended up appeasing fans’ requests to hear her voice, as she sang an impromptu a cappella rendition of “The Climb” — her popular tune from 2009’s Hannah Montana: The Movie.

Cyrus’ supporters came to her defense after videos of the moment went viral on social media.
“She’s so nice and patient. Those ‘fans’ are soooo rude and entitled. They should be ashamed,” one user wrote, as another said, “She owes these people nothing. She handled this with such class and grace. Shame on them.”

Added one other commenter: “Maybe do your research before attending then. She’s not an object, you don’t demand someone to sing 🫠.”
A representative for both Cyrus and the Tribeca Festival did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Saturday, June 7.

Alongside the previously released single “End of the World,” Something Beautiful — which Cyrus produced alongside Shawn Everett — also features contributions from the likes of Brittany Howard (on “Walk of Fame”) and Naomi Campbell (on “Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved”).
Cyrus’ boyfriend Maxx Morando also worked on the project, which was described as “introspective, sonically adventurous and emotionally grounded” in a press release.
Something Beautiful, the album, is available to purchase and stream now, while the film of the same name will be released in theaters on June 12.
