Iman Marks 33rd Anniversary of Wedding with David Bowie

Iman is sharing a sweet throwback on what would have been her 33rd wedding anniversary with David Bowie.

The actress and model, 69, shared a few touching words while reflecting on her Italian wedding with the “Heroes” singer, who died at the age of 69 in 2016 as a result of liver cancer — and even shared a few throwbacks to their wedding day.

In one post, she wrote in bold yellow letters over a dark background, “My memory loves you; it asks about you all the time.” She captioned the photo, “Wedding Anniversary” and “#BowieForever.”

In a second Instagram post commemorating the event, she shared snippets of the pair during their wedding ceremony at St James’ Episcopal Church in Florence, Italy, on June 6, 1992. The opening black and white picture showed the musician looking forward as the model rested her head over his shoulder and they entwined hands. 

Other photos showed Iman in her white halter wedding gown with a train holding flowers as she prepared to say “I do,” and Bowie fixing his suit cuffs in a black and white shot in front of a table filled with crosses and candles. Another photo showed the two of them smiling in front of that very same table.

Other sweet photos showed the “Starman” musician looking at his soon-to-be wife as they held hands in front of the altar while she looked up, and of the two of them chatting as she sat in a chair and he kneeled in front of her. Additional snaps showed the two during their first dance and smiling over a tiered cake. 

“Wedding Anniversary June 6th, 1992 Florence, Italy,” Iman wrote, while also tagging the photographer Brian Aris. On her Instagram Stories, she reshared the post alongside Bowie’s “The Wedding Song.”

In April, Iman also celebrated the pair’s first wedding held on April 24, 1992, in a private ceremony in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Instagram, a few months prior to their larger Italian wedding, writing, “When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.”

The pair met and fell in love after getting set up on a blind date in 1990. Just two years later, the “Under Pressure” singer proposed to the model on the banks of the River Seine. In August 2000, they welcomed daughter Alexandria Zahra Jones.

Despite the music star’s death, Iman has kept their love alive with sentimental tributes to her late husband over the years, and has celebrated him as if he were still alive today.

“I still feel married,” Iman previously told PEOPLE in November 2021. “Someone a few years ago referred to David as my late husband, and I said, ‘No, he’s not my late husband. He’s my husband.’ Through my memory, my love lives.”
