Tom Cruise recently gave a supportive shoutout to the upcoming John Wick film, From The World of John Wick: Ballerina, and that meant a lot to Keanu Reeves. Cruise and Reeves are both Hollywood legends in their own way, but when it comes to supporting the cinema experience and fresh original filmmaking, Cruise is in a league of his own. He’s been campaigning for people to head back to theaters since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the industry hard in 2020, so it’s no surprise that he’s excited about some of the summer’s biggest blockbusters.
During a red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight, Cruise mentioned the “fun” audiences can expect this summer, with the final Mission: Impossible film and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners already in theaters, and went on to say, “You’ve got the John Wick series, with, you know, Keanu and Ana, they’re going to do Ballerina…” When Entertainment Tonight later spoke to Reeves on the red carpet for Ballerina and asked him how it felt to receive that kind of support from Tom Cruise, Reeves responded enthusiastically.
“Yeah, I mean, he’s a legend, you know, I don’t know if he has an equal. The career that he’s had, in action and performing, you know, he’s very special; he’s one of the best. It’s cool to have a shoutout from the legend.”
Tom Cruise Has Always Supported Reeves’ Career
Keanu Reeves And Tom Cruise Are Both Committed To Doing Their Own Stunts
Cruise’s recent shoutout for Ballerina is by no means the first time he’s publicly supported Reeves’ work or the John Wick franchise. Cruise recently admitted that he “grew up with Keanu,” explaining how much he admired Reeves’ work ethic and charisma in movies like The Matrix, Speed, and, of course, John Wick. “I know what it takes to do that stuff, so I always call him. I’m like, ‘Hats off, man, hats off,’ and I dig those movies, I really love it.” Their admiration for each other is understandable, as Cruise and Reeves are well-known for performing their own stunts.

The Mission: Impossible franchise’s stunt work has become increasingly intense over the years; Cruise has done everything from clinging to the side of the Burj Khalifa to dangling out of helicopters, and jumping off cliffs with a motorcycle. They’re Both At The Top Of Their Game
Who would have thought that when we watched Cruise’s Ethan Hunt drop into that stark white vault for the first time, we’d witness him exploring a sunken submarine nearly 30 years later? Mission: Impossible is one of those rare franchises that has only become more thrilling the more it’s grown, an impressive feat considering just how tense the first Mission: Impossible film was. Doing stunt work can enhance an actor’s performance and give them that all-important ‘connection with the audience and the story.’
As Reeves explained in that same interview for John Wick: Chapter 4, doing stunt work can enhance an actor’s performance and give them that all-important “connection with the audience and the story.” John Wick is another action franchise that has improved with each installment.
