If you’re like me and feeling the dregs of Daylight Savings Time in your mind, body and soul, then you have the perfect excuse to curl up to a good movie or TV show — and we’ve got your back.
This weekend, Nov. 8-9, the movie theater is king with three exciting releases: one about a first-time mother struggling with postpartum anxiety, another about a groundbreaking female boxer and a third about an alien hunter on a treacherous journey.
None of those strike your fancy? Fret not, over on TV, Ryan Murphy has his newest drama (starring reality royalty, no less) while Succession’s Sarah Snook takes on the leading role in a book adaptation. Plus, they have nearly the same name, so don’t get them confused!
And there’s more! Here’s a list of the nine best new movies and shows to watch this weekend and where to stream them.
Die My Love
Jennifer Lawrence may have missed her chance to star opposite then-teen heartthrob Robert Pattinson in Twilight, but a decade later, the universe gave the star a haunting script and heartwrenching story when the two crossed paths for the first time in Die My Love.
Lawrence is Grace, a woman slowly descending into madness as she moves to a remote home in Montana with her husband, Jackson (Pattinson), shortly after welcoming their daughter.
Die My Love releases in theaters on Nov. 7.
Christy
Sydney Sweeney has been a nun, a drug addict and a young girl in love in her past roles, and now, she’s taking on a real American icon: Christy Martin.
The boxer’s rise to fame — and her relationship with her abusive husband — is captured in Christy, a powerful look back at the most famous female boxer of the ’90s.
Christy releases in theaters on Nov. 7.
Predator: Badlands
Be warned: this is not for the faint of heart (or those who don’t like blood and gore!). Cast aside by her clan, an alien hunter (Elle Fanning) and her unlikely ally embark on a journey together to face a mutual adversary.
The stakes are high — and the alien vibes are real as Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi undergoes a drastic transformation with some alarming prosthetics for his face.
Predator: Badlands releases in theaters on Nov. 7.
Frankenstein
You can make Jacob Elordi into a nearly unrecognizable monster, but you can’t make him any less attractive to us! Sorry folks, he may be the Creature in Frankenstein, but we’ll still love him in all his 6′ 5″ glory.
The actor spent 10 hours in the makeup chair to transform into the iconic monster, created by Oscar Isaac’s Dr. Frankenstein (yes, your reminder that Frankenstein is the creator, not the creation!).
Watch Frankenstein on Netflix.
All Her Fault
When Marissa Irvine (Sarah Snook) shows up to collect her son, Milo, from his first playdate, she experiences every mother’s worst nightmare: the woman who answers the door is a stranger and has never heard of her child.
When the police start delving into the kidnapping, they discover that all the seemingly nice and supportive people in Marissa’s life have more to them than meets the eye — in potentially dangerous ways.
Watch All Her Fault on Peacock.
Pluribus
The previous pick may have been a parent’s worst nightmare, but our personal one is this: a virus spreads that makes everyone annoyingly optimistic and happy, and only you and a handful of other people are immune. And no one will just leave you to your own miserable self.
Carol experiences just that in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul creator Vince Gilligan’s Pluribus, starring Rhea Seehorn in her second collaboration with the showrunner.
Watch the first two episodes of Pluribus on Apple TV.
All’s Fair
We know what you’re going to say — but aren’t you curious about the show behind the 0% Rotten Tomatoes debut? Even its star, Kim Kardashian, is leaning into the bizarre criticism, posting photos on Instagram of herself laughing along with the rest of the cast, interspersed with scathing reviews.
All’s Fair is Ryan Murphy’s latest, a legal drama about scorned women helping clients with their divorces. If you don’t want to watch for the “legendary actresses” giving the “worst performances of their careers,” as one X user put it, watch for the fabulous fashion alone.
Watch the first three episodes of All’s Fair on Hulu.
Alex vs ARod
Alex Rodriguez was known as A-Rod on the ballfield — an immensely successful, iconic Yankees player who cemented his name in history as one of the greatest baseball stars of all time. But in his personal life, he was just Alex — a man struggling with the high demands of his job and being a good partner and father to his two daughters.
Now, Rodriguez is sitting down for an intimate look back on his life and the choices that led him to where he is today: the good, the bad and the ugly.
Watch Alex vs ARod on HBO Max.
Happy’s Place season 2
Reba McEntire is back on the silver screen as Bobbie, a Tennessee woman who has taken over her late father’s tavern with her long-lost sister.
This season, she’s learning the modern rules of dating and dealing with the ramifications of a long-buried secret that comes to light.
Watch the season 2 premiere of Happy’s Place on Friday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and streaming next day on Peacock.
