2026 just might be the year of the page-to-screen adaptation!
With on-screen versions of novels by Emily Henry, Suzanne Collins, Colleen Hoover (two!) and more on the way, it’s safe to say that bookworms and TV and movie fanatics alike have a lot to look forward to in the coming months. Fans of any genre are sure to find something to watch — and hopefully read too.

‘His and Hers’ (Jan. 8)

Based on Alice Feeney’s novel, this Netflix series follows reporter Anna Andrews (Tessa Thompson), who investigates a small town murder. When she learns detective Jack Harper (Jon Bernthal), also her ex, is on the case too, things take a turn.
‘People We Meet on Vacation’ (Jan. 9)

The first of Emily Henry’s bestselling novels to hit screens follows Alex (Tom Blyth) and Poppy (Emily Bader), two friends who once had a yearly tradition to go on vacations together. After a falling out, they don’t speak for years, until Poppy calls Alex to join her on another trip. Check it out on Netflix.
‘The Seven Dials Mystery’ (Jan. 15)

Based on Agatha Christie’s thrilling mystery, the upcoming Netflix series of the same name is a detective story about a sleuth who investigates a prank gone tragically wrong. It stars Mia McKenna-Bruce, Helena Bonham Carter, Martin Freeman and more.
‘Finding Her Edge’ (Jan. 22)
NETFLIX
This Netflix series based on the popular YA novel by Jennifer Iacopoli centers on Adriana Russo (Madelyn Keys), a figure skater who becomes the center of a love triangle while trying to save her family’s ice rink. Watch it to get excited about the Winter Olympics!
‘Bridgerton’ (Jan. 29)

Regency romance fans, rejoice! Inspired by author Julia Quinn’s bestselling series (more specifically, her novel An Offer from a Gentleman), Bridgerton’s fourth season focuses on Benedict Bridgerton’s (Luke Thompson) romance with Sophia Beckett (Yerin Ha). Part two releases on Netflix on Feb. 26.
‘Wuthering Heights’ (in theaters Feb. 13)

Saltburn director Emerald Fennell puts her own spin on Emily Brontë’s gothic classic, following the tumultuous relationship between Catherine Earnshaw (Margot Robbie) and Heathcliff (Jacob Elordi). If that weren’t enticing enough, Charli xcx is also set to score the film.
‘The Last Thing He Told Me’ (Feb. 20)
Apple TV
The Jennifer Garner-led Apple TV+ series, based on Laura Dave’s novel of the same name returns for its second season this year. The latest installment sees Hannah (Garner) and her stepdaughter (Angourie Rice) navigating new family dynamics when Hannah’s husband Owen (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) returns. It’s also developed from Dave’s sequel to The Last Thing He Told Me, called The First Time I Saw Him.
‘Outlander’ (March 6)

The final season of the beloved Starz series pulls from author Diana Gabaldon’s novel Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone. Both center on Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitríona Balfe) during the American Revolution.
‘Reminders of Him’ (in theaters March 16)
Universal Studios
Colleen Hoover’s novel will soon come to life in a film starring Maika Monroe as Kenna, a woman who returns to her hometown after a prison sentence. The cast also features Tyriq Withers, Lauren Graham and Lainey Wilson.
‘Project Hail Mary’ (in theaters March 20)
Amazon MGM Studios
Ryan Gosling and Sandra Huller star in the upcoming adaptation of Andy Weir’s thrilling novel. Both versions center on Ryland Grace, a teacher who is tasked to save humanity from a deadly organism.
‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’ (April 15)
Apple TV
Elle Fanning stars as titular character Margot, a young mother who turns to OnlyFans to support her daughter. Don’t sleep on reading Rufi Thorpe’s funny and tender novel before watching the Apple TV+ show.
‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’ (May 8)
Ecco
Shelby Van Pelt’s touching novel, about a widow finds an unlikely friend in an octopus, is soon to be a Netflix film, and stars Sally Field and Lewis Pullman.
‘Practical Magic 2’ (in theaters Sept. 18)
The Owens sisters are back! The beloved movie Practical Magic, about sibling witches Sally (Sandra Bullock) and Gilly (Nicole Kidman), is getting its long-awaited sequel, based on author Alice Hoffman’s novel The Book of Magic.
‘Verity’ (in theaters Oct. 2)
The second of Hoover’s books coming to the screen this year follows Lowen, a ghostwriter who takes a job to finish the book series of famed author Verity Crawford. While going through Verity’s work, however, she uncovers a chilling discovery The film stars Dakota Johnson as Lowen and Anne Hathaway as Verity.
‘Remain’ (in theaters Oct. 23)

You know it’s going to be a good adaptation when an author and a filmmaker team up! The supernatural romance film starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor is based on a story created by Nicholas Sparks and M. Night Shyamalan.
‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ (in theaters Nov. 20)

The hotly-anticipated Hunger Games prequel took the bookish community by storm, and now, it’s going to do the same for film. Sunrise on the Reaping centers on Katniss Everdeen’s mentor Haymitch (Joseph Zada) as a teenager, when he’s set to participate in the 50th Hunger Games.
‘Dune: Part Three’ (in theaters Dec. 18)
Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh and more are returning to the third installment of Dennis Villeneuve’s Dune franchise. The third film, based on Frank Hebert’s novel Dune Messiah, wraps up Paul Atreides’ (Chalamet) journey.
