Timothée Chalamet and Odessa A’zion set a wild tone in the opening scene of Marty Supreme.
PEOPLE has an exclusive clip from the film, which sees A’zion’s character Rachel visit Chalamet’s Marty Mauser at the shoe store he works at in 1952 New York City.
Though Rachel arrives under the guise of a recent customer with a follow-up question for her shoe salesman, she’s actually arrived to share a steamy rendezvous with Marty.
The scene sets up audiences for conflicts to come in Marty’s journey to prove himself as an elite international table tennis player, including his efforts to make money to travel to international tournaments and his romance with Rachel.

Chalamet, 29 and A’zion, 25, star in Marty Supreme with Gwyneth Paltrow, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara and Fran Drescher, among others.
“Marty Mauser, a young man with a dream no one respects, goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness,” teases A24’s synopsis for the film.
A’zion, who also currently stars in the HBO series I Love LA, complimented Chalamet’s acting and professionalism on set during a recent interview on The Drew Barrymore Show.
“He was amazing. He’s such an incredible scene partner,” she said, while speaking with Drew Barrymore. “He’s so good with improv— it’s the best. And it was really fun. I felt like we were really challenging each other at times, and he’s just as good — I keep saying this — he’s just as good in real life working with him as when you see the actual thing come together, which I love.”
