Dolly Parton is the latest celebrity to be granted her own day.
On Monday, Jan. 19, which marks the country icon’s 80th birthday, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee announced that the date would officially be observed as “Dolly Parton Day.”
The declaration honors “her lifetime of achievement, service, and positive impact,” according to the state leader’s official notice of Dolly Parton Day.
“Dolly Parton is an acclaimed singer, songwriter, musician, actress, producer, and entrepreneur whose body of work embodies the spirit of Tennessee; and throughout her remarkable career, Dolly Parton has earned numerous awards and accolades and is widely regarded as one of the most influential and beloved artists in the history of American music,” the proclamation states.

“In addition to her artistic accomplishments, Dolly Parton has demonstrated an enduring commitment to philanthropy and service,” the notice continues, highlighting the Dollywood Foundation and the Imagination Library.
“Dolly Patton’s generosity, humility, and dedication to improving the lives of others exemplify the values of the Volunteer State and serve as an inspiration to Tennesseans and people worldwide,” the notice concludes.
In addition to the proclamation, Parton was showered with love on social media as friends in country music wished her a happy birthday.
Reba McEntire shared a series of photos of them together over the years on Instagram.
“Happy 80th Birthday to the one and only, @DollyParton! I love you to pieces and I’m so thankful for all these years of memories we’ve shared,” she wrote. “Can’t wait to make many more together! 🦋💙”
Billy Ray Cyrus dedicated a sweet Instagram post to Parton, who’s his daughter Miley Cyrus’ godmother.
“Dolly Parton at 80 is a reminder of what music is supposed to do… bring people together, lift spirits, and tell the truth with heart,” he wrote, alongside a photo with Parton and Miley.
He continued, “I’ve been honored to share songs with her and blessed to call her family. As @mileycyrus’s godmother and a guiding light in our lives, Dolly’s influence goes far beyond the charts… it lives in the lives she’s touched and the generations of fans she’s inspired. Happy birthday, @dollyparton. — Your “Romeo” BRC 🎂🎶🎉”
Shania Twain shared a nostalgic video of their performance in 2006 at the 2006 Kennedy Center Honors.
“I want to wish the most happiest of birthdays to my musical hero @dollyparton! ❤️ What a privilege it is to know you… Little miss Twain was so lucky growing up with you as a role model. We are strong, kick-ass women in country music just like so many before us but you were my true inspiration,” Twain wrote on Instagram.
Speaking with PEOPLE for a November 2025 cover story, the “Jolene” singer reflected on turning 80.
“People say, ‘Well, you’re going to be 80 years old.’ Well, so what? Look at all I’ve done in 80 years. I feel like I’m just getting started,” she said at the time.
