Simon Cowell’s fianceé, Lauren Silverman, is redefining herself — starting with her name.
The 48-year-old entrepreneur, who recently launched an Instagram account with her fiancé’s surname, revealed why she is now going by Lauren Cowell despite her and the America’s Got Talent judge, 66, having not yet tied the knot.
“Look, I am Mrs. Cowell,” she told Daily Mail in an interview published on Friday, Dec. 5. “I have created a life with Simon. We have a child together. We have a solid relationship.”
She further shared that Simon and their son, Eric, 11, helped influence her decision to make the change, as she wanted to show that the trio was united.

“This is more about the unity of our family and us having the same name,” she explained. “When we discussed it, Simon said, ‘Yeah, I would really like you to change your name.’ ”
She added, “It wasn’t a dramatic statement, it was just: ‘This is who I am, and this is who we are.’ ”
Lauren also revealed in the interview why she kept ex-husband Andrew Silverman’s last name for so long, noting that it was all “because” of their son Adam, 20. She said she initially considered “going back” to her maiden name after their divorce, but decided to ultimately keep it “for his sake.”

Now that she has changed her last name, the socialite said she is more than ready to walk down the aisle — whenever Cowell is ready. (He has previously noted, per the Daily Mail, that he was reluctant on the idea because he needs his own space.)
PEOPLE confirmed in that Simon and Lauren got engaged during a beachside family vacation in Barbados on Christmas Eve in 2021. Both of Lauren’s sons were present for the occasion.
Although she admitted to the U.K. publication that they “haven’t planned anything” for the wedding since then, they do have an idea of what they don’t want. “We will not be having a big, grand wedding with a white dress. We are very low-key,” she said, adding, “We are a bit kooky and unconventional in the way we do things – it is what it is, you know?”

As for her plans of getting her beau down the aisle, Lauren told the outlet, “Simon is Simon! I might be in a wheelchair, and you’ll have to wheel me down the aisle.”
When it comes to keeping their relationship strong, she also noted that it was important for her to give The X Factor judge some space — especially during life’s tougher moments, including the death of Liam Payne. “The shock of it rattled all of us,” she said.
“For Simon it was so many emotions all at once. As much as I wanted to be with him, I also appreciated that he needed to clear his head. We needed to give him his space,” Lauren said. “Part of loving somebody unconditionally and understanding them is knowing what they need.”
