NEED TO KNOW
Mary Elizabeth Ellis loves to share the screen with husband Charlie Day.
Ellis, 46, and Day, 49, have been married since 2006. In addition to sharing their lives together, they have also shared the screen.
The couple have costarred in the sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia since 2005. They also both appeared in the 2008 movie A Quiet Little Marriage, which Ellis cowrote. Now, Ellis is ready to work with him again, potentially on her latest series, Netflix’s A Man on the Inside.
When asked if she’d like to work with Day on the show, the actress exclusively told PEOPLE, “I love working with him and would love to have him there.”

“We get to work together on Always Sunny, and he’s writing a film he’s hoping to shoot soon that we’ll get to work together on,” she continued. “I wrote a film that I’m hoping to shoot soon that I would love to have him in.”
“I love working with him,” she said of her husband, whom she shares a son. “He’s my favorite person.”
As for what makes the two great scene partners, Ellis said, “I think we both just respect each other and listen to each other. We bounce ideas off each other, honestly, to the point where sometimes I’m like, ‘I need to brush my teeth before you start giving me thoughts on your films.’ ”
And the feeling is mutual. Day shared in a July interview with PEOPLE, prior to the release of the show’s season 2, that he wanted to make a cameo on A Man on the Inside.
“I would love to be on her show, but I know they just wrapped their second season. I’ll have to keep my fingers crossed for a third,” he said.
The latest installment of A Man on the Inside premiered Nov. 20 on Netflix. It follows Charles Nieuwendyk (Ted Danson) as he is assigned to help Wheeler College president Jack Berenger (Max Greenfield) crack a case and must go undercover as a college professor.

In the show, Ellis plays Charles’ daughter, Emily. The show also features Mary Steenburgen, Stephanie Beatriz, Michaela Conlin, Lisa Gilroy, Madison Hu, Sam Huntington, Jason Mantzoukas, Constance Marie, Linda Park, David Strathairn and Jill Talley.
Ellis gave some insight into her character’s journey throughout the latest season, telling PEOPLE, “Season 1 was really about her taking care of her dad. He lost his partner that he had been with forever, and she was really concerned that her dad lost himself in that.”

“In season 2, she starts to look at herself a little bit more in her own grief, like what she’s going through, and so I get to work on healing myself a little bit more in the season,” the actress added.
