Lewis Pullman is reflecting on teaming up with his dad, Bill Pullman for Spaceballs 2, the long-awaited sequel to Spaceballs.
While speaking to PEOPLE at the Los Angeles premiere of his new film, The Testament of Ann Lee, on Dec. 14, Lewis, 32, confessed that he had trouble wrapping his mind around the fact that he will be appearing in the second installment of the iconic comedy franchise.
“It was a dream come true,” Lewis told PEOPLE. “We just wrapped, and … every day was such a trip. It was kind of like a … felt like a bizarre simulation. I just couldn’t believe my luck.”

He added, “We’ve been wanting to do that forever and we never knew whether we could get the chance or not. And so doing it on a movie like Spaceballs 2 was just like, ‘What simulation … what world are we in right now?’ “
Amazon MGM Studios announced the sequel to Spaceballs, Mel Brook’s beloved 1987 Star Wars parody, back in June. On the same day, Deadline confirmed that Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis will return to reprise their roles from the original.

The long-awaited follow-up, which is co-written by Brooks and Josh Gad, is set to bring contemporary satirical takes on the ever-expanding Star Wars franchise, per Deadline.
The film’s initial announcement skewered Hollywood’s obsession with franchises in recent decades.
“Thirty-eight years ago, there was only one Star Wars trilogy. But since then there have been … a prequel trilogy, a sequel trilogy, a sequel to the prequel, a prequel to the sequel, countless TV spinoffs, a movie spinoff of the TV spinoff, which is both a prequel and a sequel,” the announcement video, shared on Brooks’ X account, teased.
“Not to mention … two Dunes, 7 Jurassic Parks, two Avatars plus three upcoming Avatars making five Avatars, 36 MCU movies with two different Robert Downey Jr.’s, DCU attempt number one, DCU attempt number two, an animated Lion King, a live action animated Lion King, a live action animated Lion King prequel, eight Harry Potter movies, a TV series remaking the same eight Harry Potter movies, a whole streaming service of Star Trek, seven Alien movies (two of which were also Predator movies, not to be mistaken for the six Predator movies that are not also Alien movies), one Prometheus (which is kind of an Alien movie), four Beatles movies? And … Oppenheimer. But in 38 years there has only ever been one SPACEBALLS. Until now… ”
Spaceballs 2 is set to premiere in 2027.
