Eric Clapton is a grandfather again!
The 80-year-old rocker’s daughter, Ruth, 40, welcomed her third baby, daughter Cecelia Rose Clapton-Greenwood, with partner Peter Greenwood, sharing the exciting news on her Instagram Stories. In the post, she shared the first look at her daughter, who was born on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at 9:21 a.m.
“Cecelia Rose Clapton-Greenwood Born 6th Jan 9:21am,” she wrote in text over the picture, “All of us are so in love with her and I can’t wait to share my c section journey with you but I’m just not quite ready to be out of our newborn bubble yet. Just couldn’t resist sharing this pic of her with you all before leaving the hospital today ❤️✨.”

The newly minted mom of three is already a son, Theodore, 9, and Isaac, 12, with her ex-husband Dean Bartlett, whom she split from in 2020. The couple first announced the news last July on Instagram that they were having a baby with a video set to The Cardigans’ “Lovefool,” featuring Ruth showing off her baby bump and a sonogram.
“We’re having a baby! Just over 12 weeks now, due at the end of January 2026. So grateful ♥️✨,” she wrote in the caption, followed by several hashtags including #wearehavingababy and #pregnantat40.
The guitarist is a father of five children: Ruth, Julie Rose, Ella May, Sophie Belle, and the late Conor, who died in 1991.
Clapton fathered his first child, Ruth, with Yvonne Kelly in 1985. At the time, the musician was still married to his first wife, Pattie Boyd. Ruth was kept a secret from Boyd, and it was only after Conor’s death at age 4 that the little girl’s identity was revealed. In the 2007 biography, Clapton: The Autobiography, Clapton is quoted as crediting his daughter for helping him cope with his grief.
“Yvonne knew that [being close to Ruth] would help and it was true. I was able to hold a child again, and to be held by a child,” he said. “Ruth has been a tremendous support. I had no idea how much power a child could have on an adult life, how much it can make you feel valid, unique and strong.”

Although Clapton and Ruth were close during her childhood, the father and daughter spent a number of years estranged. However, they have since mended their relationship and were on good terms by the time Ruth and her husband Bartlett divorced in 2021.
“I’ve gone through a really rough time,” she told the Daily Mail of the divorce in 2021. “I’m about to navigate my way through a divorce — a decision that neither of us has taken lightly. All we want for each other is happiness, even if that can’t be achieved together.”
When asked about her father, Ruth said, “I’m always checking in with him. He’s doing really good, I’m very grateful for that. He’s itching to get back out there like all musicians.”
