NEED TO KNOW
Åsa Orbison, along with her husband, Roy Orbison Jr., and their four sons, are ringing in the holiday season in true Orbison fashion: through song.
The Swedish-born singer and songwriter has released her latest musical offering, and this time, she’s brought her entire family along for the ride. Titled Orbison Family Christmas, and released on Dec. 1, the 9-track project succeeds at both harkening back to yesteryear through thoughtful covers while simultaneously presenting a new generation of Orbison sound.
Calling the album the “soundtrack to our real life Christmas” in a press release shared with PEOPLE, Roy Jr., 55, noted that “There’s pieces of each member of the family in different songs. I am surprised how well we captured our different personalities.”

Listeners from every age group can find something to resonate with on Orbison Family Christmas, including the couple’s son, Roy Orbison III, covering Chuck Berry’s “Run, Run Rudolph,” which Roy Jr. proudly proclaimed, “would make my dad Roy Orbison happy.”
Another tribute to the late Roy Orbison Sr. included in the album is “Pretty Paper,” a Willie Nelson-penned track that the “Oh, Pretty Woman” singer had success in covering as a Christmas hit in 1963. The new version, a tribute to Roy Sr.’s cover, features Åsa and Roy Jr.’s children Roy III, Bo, Love and Sun singing backup. To Roy Jr., the latest rendition of the track “makes it a more positive tribute to the beautiful lyrics and story of the song” that his father helped shape over 60 years ago.

Other tracks from the project include the likes of “Snowman,” “I’d Like You for Christmas,” “Santa Baby,” “Warm in December,” “Frosty the Snowman,” “O Christmas Tree” and “Christmas Time Is Here.” As a whole, the Orbison family sought to bring some of their signature festive spirit to the masses through a harmonious offering of family, backdropped by a slew of catchy, timeless Christmas hits.
“Christmas has always been our favorite time of year—a season that fills our home with love, laughter, and the warmth of being together,” Åsa further noted in the family’s release. “I know I’ll cherish these moments forever, and I hope the world can feel a little of our Christmas spirit through it, too.”
Orbison Family Christmas is available on all major streaming platforms now.
