Ariana Grande is bringing the nostalgia.
The Wicked star, 32, revived her iconic ponytail at the 2026 Golden Globes, a hairstyle that’s become synonymous with the multi-hyphenate who’s been rocking the ‘do for over a decade.
Perhaps her greatest accessory of all time, the 2026 version was ultra-sleek with a left side part and a strand of hair hanging down in front of her face. The ponytail was high, voluminous and curled in the back.

Grande’s ‘do paired perfectly with her all-black ensemble when she hit the red carpet at the award show held in Beverly Hills on Sunday, Jan. 11. Her floor-length Vivienne Westwood Couture gown featured off-the-shoulder straps and a V-cut back with a sculptural skirt that flared from the waist down to the floor.
She accessorized with a dainty diamond necklace and stud diamond earrings. And for her makeup, she chose a light pink lip and kept her eye makeup to a minimal.
Grande, who’s nominated for her role of Glinda in Wicked: For Good, has been known for her ponytail for years. The iconic look began as early as September 2012, when she work her dark auburn hair in a low pony at Variety’s Power of Youth event at Paramount Studios.
The performer’s ponytail reached new heights during the 2014 iHeartRadio Music Festival two years later, with the star sweeping her brown locks up into a tie for a straightened version of her ‘do. She paired it with cat ears as she belted her hits on stage.

Grande’s ponytail evolved, taking on various shapes and forms (and lengths!) in the years that followed. The look’s appeared on red carpets including the 2016 Grammy Awards, the 2016 American Music Awards, her 2019 headlining Coachella set, the 2024 Met Gala and beyond.

“The pony has also gone through an evolution, and I’m proud of that,” Grande said in her 2018 Fader cover story.
“Old pony? I don’t know if she’s that girl. But new pony? I like her. I mean, it’s like a Victoria Secret angel without angel wings. It’s still her without them, but when she’s with them it’s like, Ohh, I get it, she’s an angel,” the star continued.
That wasn’t the first time Grande spoke about her longtime love affair with her hair, whether it’s a sky-high pony, a low ponytail at the nape of her neck or a half-up, half-down ‘do.
“I feel like there’s a thousand different ways to do a ponytail. A million!…It brings me so much joy, honestly. Every time I put my hair up, it’s like a surprise,” she said in an interview with Byrdie. “Like, I forget how much I love it, and then I tie it back and I’m like, ‘I love this look! Ooh, girl!’”
She added, “Every time I tie it up is like the first time. It’s like true love.”
