In a 29th birthday tribute to Destry on Dec. 1, Herskowitz called his then-girlfriend “the love of my life.”
He playfully added, “Ya fun ya sexy ya the best and I love ya!”
Destry’s engagement news comes as her filmmaker father achieved EGOT status by earning a Grammy Award on Sunday, Feb. 1. He won for Best Music Film for Music by John Williams, which he produced.

The bride-to-be is following in her father’s footsteps with a career in filmmaking. She made her feature-film directorial debut with 2024’s Please Don’t Feed the Children, which stars Michelle Dockery, Zoe Colletti and Giancarlo Esposito.
Last year, Destry opened up to PEOPLE about her “hard and confusing” path to directing after a back injury pivoted her away from competitive equestrianism.
“Transitioning from a life that I had as an equestrian, having an injury, having to essentially stop [and] not having a path or an idea of what you wanna do next was really hard and confusing and weird,” she shared.
After studying acting and landing a few movie roles, she and a friend decided to write a short film together “with the purpose of putting both ourselves in it, so that we could have the reel that we needed.” Destry also directed the film, describing stepping behind the camera as “a spiritual experience” that sparked her passion for directing.
“I was like, ‘I’ve never done this before.’ But once we got it all set up and we finally started shooting, it was a spiritual experience because I had stepped on set and it was like all these instincts just clicked,” she recalled. “I can’t even explain it. It was like a dream. I immediately felt so passionate about this role as a director and just had all these instincts that were flowing out of me and all these ideas.”
