NEED TO KNOW
Johnny Depp’s latest film has him looking unrecognizable.
The actor, 62, was spotted filming a new adaptation of A Christmas Carol in London on Jan. 28, when he could be seen in costume as Ebenezer Scrooge.
Depp, wearing makeup and prosthetics to channel the classic Charles Dickens character, was dressed in a large blue and black coat with pajamas underneath.
His long, salt-and-pepper hair poked out from a nightcap as he filmed scenes with Andrea Riseborough, who stars in the upcoming film as the Ghost of Christmas Past.
Riseborough, 44, covered completely in white makeup across her body and hair, wore eerie white-colored contact lenses and a long, flowy dress in the same ghostly shade.

The film, titled in full as Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, is directed by Ti West (X, Pearl and MaXXXine) and based on Dickens’ 1843 novel.
Along with Depp and Riseborough, others who star in the latest adaptation of the classic tale include Tramell Tillman, Ian McKellen, Rupert Grint, Daisy Ridley and Sam Claflin, to name a few. (Back in June, Deadline reported that Robert Eggers and Willem Dafoe are also tackling the classic Christmas ghost story, but through more of a horror-centric lens.)

Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol marks Depp’s first major Hollywood studio movie since 2019’s Waiting for the Barbarians and 2018’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Some of his recent projects that were not backed on the same massive scale include 2023’s Jeanne du Barry and the upcoming Day Drinker, both of which Depp acts in, as well as 2024’s Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness, which he directed.
The Oscar nominee stepped back from Hollywood movies following his defamation case with ex-wife Amber Heard. Their televised six-week trial ended in June 2022 with a verdict that found the actress, 39, liable on all three counts of defamation regarding a 2018 op-ed she had written. After making appeals, the exes agreed on a settlement.
Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol is scheduled to be released in theaters by Paramount Pictures on Nov. 13.
