Taylor Lautner and his wife Tay Lautner are sharing tales from their relationship, and the coincidence that led to the couple sharing the same name.
The Twilight actor, 33, and his wife Tay celebrated their third wedding anniversary together in November. “It’s hilarious in a lot of ways, but sharing a name just adds to my feeling like she’s literally my other half and we are one and the same,” Taylor told Cosmopolitan in an interview published on Tuesday, Jan. 27, as the couple discussed sharing their name. “Of course, we have different lives and independence. But it’s a really special thing.”
“We giggle about it all the time,” Tay added.
Tay, whose maiden name is Dome, and Taylor, noted in the interview that they first met in December 2017, when Taylor’s younger sister Makena introduced the pair and insisted that they would make a quality romantic match.
“I had just befriended her, and I really wanted to make her feel like I was friends with her for her, which I was,” Tay recalled. “I had also recently gotten out of a relationship, and I was just about to start nursing school, so I wasn’t looking to date.”
“The timing would’ve been great for you to be single,” Taylor added. “It was the worst time to jump into a new relationship. My sister had other plans.”

The former Twilight star noted that his sister’s attempt to set him up was the first time she had done so. “And I’ll be completely honest, I did not have any faith in it. I was like, ‘Sure, you can bring her to a game night…,’ he recalled. “People ask all the time if it was an instant thing, and I never know how to answer. In this moment, as I’m speaking, I’m realizing that it wasn’t an instant thing because I was hesitant about my younger sister setting me up.”
As both Taylor and Tay recalled, they decided to move forward with their relationship within weeks after meeting and had their first kiss on New Year’s Eve in 2017. “I just kept waiting for the catch, for something to go wrong because it was too good to be true,” Tay said. “When Taylor came to me, like, ‘Do you want to be exclusive?’ I was like, ‘Well, do you want to be exclusive?’ ”

When the outlet noted that many brides do not take their husbands’ last names anymore, Tay responded, “We were just like, ‘This is going to be a little confusing.’ But it was something that I wanted. Being Taylor’s wife, I wanted his last name.”
“You’re not my wife. I’m your husband,” Taylor responded.

Taylor last appeared on the big screen in the 2022 movie Home Team. He has two projects currently in the works, including a romantic comedy titled The Token Groomsman and a television series humorously titled Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter, a reference to his werewolf character in the Twilight franchise.
