Inside the Love Lives of the ‘Tell Me Lies’ Cast

Grace Van Patten and Jackson White

Van Patten and White star in Tell Me Lies as Lucy and Stephen, a toxic, on-and-off couple whose relationship begins in college and runs the course of nearly a decade. Van Patten and White met while filming season 1 in 2022 and quickly hit it off.

Although they initially kept their relationship underwraps, they went public with their romance in November 2022 and have been dating ever since. While the two are pros at playing a toxic couple, Van Patten has assured viewers that their relationship off-camera is “way less exciting,” and that they’re both “wildly different” from their characters.

“Our relationship feels very grounded and easy, and we really understand each other,” Van Patten told PEOPLE in August 2025. “And he’s such a dedicated, ambitious human that I learn from every day, and he’s so extremely supportive.”

Prior to filming the second season — their first as an official couple — Van Patten admitted that she had “fear” they’d struggle to separate their character’s problems from their own.

“I had this fear of, ‘You’re going to know when I’m acting.’ Before we got into it, I was like, ‘Am I going to be insecure?’ ” she told PEOPLE in 2024. “And then once we were on set, I was like, ‘No, it’s actually the opposite.’ It makes me feel so safe and so comfortable and able to go there and be vulnerable, because I’m so comfortable with him. And that part of it was so beautiful.”

Both White and Van Patten have supported each other’s career over the years and frequently attend events together — including the Tell Me Lies season 3 premiere.

Spencer House and Sonia Mena

After playing an on-screen couple for three years, Mena and House’s real-life romantic relationship was revealed.

A source confirmed to PEOPLE in January 2025 that Mena and House — who have portrayed on-screen couple Pippa and Wrigley since season 1 in 2022 — had been dating for several years.

The show’s makeup designer, Jenny Lin, talked about their relationship in a January 2026 Substack interview. “[Spencer] and Sonia, who plays Pippa, are together in real life, and they’re just so nice. It’s so cute to have one big family, and we all love each other,” she said.

Although House and Mena frequently attend Tell Me Lies events together, they have kept details of their relationship private and haven’t elaborated on how or when their working relationship turned romantic.

Catherine Missal

Missal, who has acted in the series as Bree since the first season, appears to be single. In the series, Missal’s character gets involved with married professor Oliver after breaking up with her boyfriend, Evan.

However, in reality, the Vacation actress keeps much of her personal life private. Although Missal doesn’t relate to her character, she has taken lessons from Bree.

“She’s a great friend,” Missal told The Hollywood Reporter of her character in 2024. “I would say if any of your friends in your real life are acting like any of these characters on this show, run away as fast as possible.”

Alicia Crowder

Although Crowder has no problem getting her hands dirty as Stephen’s on-off college girlfriend, Diana, she has not shared many details when it comes to her own love life.

While Crowder keeps her personal life underwraps, she frequently posts behind-the-scenes moments with her Tell Me Lies cast members and credits them for strengthening their on-screen bonds.

Branden Cook and Katherine Hughes

Another on-screen Tell Me Lies couple has also made their relationship work outside of filming! Cook, who plays Evan, is engaged to Hughes, who portrayed Evan’s girlfriend Molly in season 2.

In October 2025, Hughes announced that Cook had proposed to her by posting photos of the two of them in a photobooth smiling and showing off her ring.

Although Hughes and Cook keep most of their relationship private, she has expressed how “proud” she is of her fiancé, while Cook has called it “sweet” of fans to be excited for them.

“People are really nice and really sweet when they see us together and they kind of put the pieces together,” Cook told PEOPLE in 2025. “It’s really sweet.

Tom Ellis and Meaghan Oppenheimer

The fourth and final Tell Me Lies couple may not be as obvious, since Oppenheimer doesn’t act in the series. However, she is the showrunner, creator and one of the executive producers of the hit series.

After creating a hit first season, Oppenheimer cast her husband, Ellis, as Oliver, a professor at Baird who’s having an affair with Bree, despite being married to Marianne (Gabriella Pession). Luckily, the couple enjoyed balancing their professional and personal lives on the set.

“We really weirdly work very, very well together,” Oppenheimer told PEOPLE in 2024. “I think it’s funnier for other people because — spoiler — everyone is naked on our show and he is as well. And I think some people at first were like, ‘Is this weird for you guys?’ And it’s so not weird for us.”

Ellis echoed his wife’s sentiments and shared that it’s “never been a problem for us,” because they have a “huge amount of respect for each other creatively.”

“I know a few people have gone, ‘What’s it like working with your wife? That must be strange.’ It’s like, well, actually, it’s strange that it isn’t strange, I think is probably the best answer,” he shared, while adding that it was a “no-brainer” to join the cast for season 2.

Oppenheimer and Ellis began dating in 2015 and announced their engagement two years later. They tied the knot in 2019 and welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Dolly Ellis-Oppenheimer, on Nov. 8, 2023.

Iris Apatow and Sam Nivola

Apatow joined the cast of Tell Me Lies for season 3 as Amanda and quickly got involved in the messy mix. While Apatow’s character has a few secrets up her sleeve, in real-life, she’s in a relationship with fellow actor Sam Nivola.

The Unstable actress and The White Lotus actor sparked romance rumors after making appearances on each other’s Instagram pages in April 2024, and they confirmed their relationship at Burberry 57th Street Store reopening in October of that year.

Apatow and Nivola — who both have parents in the entertainment industry — have supported each other’s blossoming acting careers, and Nivola previously thanked Apatow for flying to Thailand to see him film season 3 of The White Lotus.

“I brought my girlfriend for a few months, which was amazing,” he told PEOPLE in February 2025. “It was so great to have a taste of home because it was 10,000 miles away from home, and it was so nice of her to sacrifice that time to come be with me and I’m incredibly grateful to her.”

Natalee Linez and Brandeaux Tourville

Linez, who has appeared as recurring character Lydia Montgomery since season 1, has been dating producer Brandeaux Tourville since at least 2022.

The Siren actress first spoke about her boyfriend on her podcast, Ground Up with Natalee, in 2023 but didn’t share his name until two years later.

Linez revealed that she met Tourville through a mutual friend who encouraged him to message her on Instagram, she explained in a 2024 TikTok. Although she was initially hesitant to meet up with him, Linez gave him a shot, and they’ve been together ever since.

Gabriella Pession and Richard Flood

Pession portrays Marianne, Lucy’s English professor at Baird, who is also married to the unfaithful Oliver.

While Pession isn’t one of the Tell Me Lies stars who found love on the series, she had romantic success on another set. Pession is married to Richard Flood, whom she met while filming Crossing Lines, which ran from 2012 to 2015. They welcomed son Giulio together in 2014 and married in 2016.

“When we met, we didn’t speak for the first three months because we didn’t like each other,” she told Vanity Fair Italy in February 2025. “And then we got married and have been together for twelve years.”

Edmund Donovan and Juliana Canfield

Donovan, who has acted as Max since season 1, is in a relationship with fellow actress Juliana Canfield. The couple sparked romance rumors in 2022 after they were photographed attending the Broadway premiere of Take Me Out.

Since then, they have posed together at several events — including the the 2024 Tony Awards, the Met Opera Opening in September 2025 and the Gruesome Playground Injuries premiere in November 2025.

Benjamin Wadsworth and Cait Pool

Wadsworth played Drew during the first two seasons of Tell Me Lies and reached a personal milestone when he became engaged to Cait Pool in November 2025.

The actor got down on one knee and popped the question in front of a candlelit, rose-filled background and shared pictures from the special moment on Nov. 10.

Wadsworth and Pool publicly confirmed their relationship in 2024 and have gone on to post pictures from their various adventures — including traveling to Hawaii and embracing a Renaissance festival.

Wadsworth shares a daughter, Jo Jezebel, with his former fiancée, Stella Maeve.
