Teyana Taylor is opening up about her co-parenting relationship with Iman Shumpert.
While speaking to Vanity Fair for a recent profile, the One Battle After Another actress, 35, who shares daughters Iman “Junie” Tayla, 10, and Rue Rose, 5, with the former NBA player, 35, shared a glimpse into their relationship dynamics since divorcing in 2024.
“Divorce, to me, is you’re grieving the death of a living being,” Taylor explained to the outlet. “I think once children are involved, you understand the importance of really still having to show up for each other.”
“At least for the next 18 years, and being the best co-parents that we can be,” she continued, noting that she doesn’t “want people to start feeling scared of marriage, because marriage is a beautiful thing.”

The “Gonna Love Me” singer announced that she and Shumpert had been separated following seven years of marriage in September 2023.
“In all fairness, Iman and I are separated and have been for a while,” Taylor wrote on Instagram at the time. “To be 1000% clear, ‘infidelity’ ain’t one of the reasons for our departure. We are still the best of friends, great business partners and are one hell of a team when it comes to co-parenting our 2 beautiful children.”
“Most importantly we are FAMILY & in the 10yrs together, 7yrs married, we ain’t ever played with or about THAT,” she added.
Two months later, Taylor confirmed that she and Shumpert were officially ending their marriage after their divorce filing was allegedly “leaked to the public.”
“I mind my business, don’t bother nobody & y’all know I’ve never played about my children, family & our privacy,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories that November. “I have not spoken on this private matter to any media outlets or blogs etc.”

“So everyone claiming ‘Teyana said’ didn’t get any statements directly from ME,” she continued. “These statements were taken from private court documents that were leaked to the public. It is very heartbreaking that someone would take out the time to make such a private matter public for the world to see.”
While their divorce was officially finalized on July 1, 2024, Taylor alleged eight months later that the former Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard leaked their “divorce settlement” to different entertainment blogs.
Although Shumpert and his attorney denied the accusations, the singer-songwriter claimed that the “only way” blogs could have received the “alleged divorce settlements” was if he gave it to them.
“I post my little picture at the Oscars, and it does 1.4 million views. Then, the next day, all of a sudden, here come these fake divorce settlements,” Taylor said on Instagram Live at the time, per Essence. “That’s the part y’all don’t see. Every time I have something going on, there’s another story about this sealed divorce.”
