NEED TO KNOW
Houston has been a big part of DeMeco Ryans’ professional career — but it’s also the city where he met his wife, Jamila Ryans.
After meeting in the parking lot of their church, the Houston Texans head coach and the Houston native got married and went on to welcome four children together. During a December 2025 interview with Houston Texans podcast host Hannah McNair, Jamila called DeMeco an “excellent” and “loving” father.
“The way he teaches, it’s almost like coaching,” she said of DeMeco’s parenting. “Sometimes I have to tell him, ‘This is not your football team.’ ”
DeMeco began his professional football career with the Texans in 2006, later playing for the Philadelphia Eagles before transitioning into coaching and returning to Houston as head coach in early 2023. Reflecting on her husband’s transition from player to coach, Jamila told McNair she had to learn how to navigate losses in a different way.
“As a player, I knew what he needed. I knew how to navigate that space,” she said. “But now as a coach, it’s just totally different. It’s so much pressure. […] I’ve learned what he needs and how to approach it and how to help him get through it. We get through it together.”
So, who is Texans coach DeMeco Ryans’ wife? Here’s everything to know about Jamila Ryans.

According to the foundation’s Instagram, DeMeco and Jamila founded the Ryans Family Foundation to “invest in promising individuals from underserved communities through scholarships, purpose-driven programs, and partnerships that expand access to education and opportunity.”

DeMeco and Jamila’s love story began in the parking lot of their church after they attended Wednesday night Bible study, as Jamila shared during her conversation with McNair. “We just hit it off,” she said.
Years later, they got married at The Bell Tower on 34th in Houston, an intentional decision by Jamila.
“I’m a Houston girl through and through, and everything that I do, I want it to be in Houston,” she said.

DeMeco and Jamila welcomed four children: daughters Xia and Zuri, and sons MJ and Micah.
While discussing how DeMeco is as a father during her conversation with McNair, Jamila said it’s the “number one thing [she loves] about him.”
She also shared that DeMeco reminds her of her own father in the way that despite how tired he is from work, he will still find time to hang out with his children at the end of each day.
While some of their children have ventured into sports, Jamila shared on the podcast that she and DeMeco have emphasized to their children that they don’t need to follow in their dad’s football footsteps if they don’t want to.
“That is not what you are supposed to do. You’re supposed to make your own footsteps. You are supposed to be what you want to be,” she said.

During a November 2025 community event, Jamila shared some sweet words about her husband’s work while speaking with KPRC 2 Houston.
“I think my husband’s biggest reason for coaching is to bless others,” she said. “Football is a platform for him. In that platform, he is going to bless others. He’s going to spread the gospel. He is going to raise men, build men. And it’s not about the X’s and O’s. The X’s and O’s are the vehicle through which he’s able to do these things.”
Jamila continued, “I’m extremely proud of our team. I’m very proud of my husband.”
She also praised the way her husband has grown in the role over the last year and “become a leader.”
“He’s had to continue to uplift and encourage the building and the players,” Jamila said. “Just watching him do that has been the most amazing thing for my family because he’s been an excellent example for our four kids. I have watched him grow as a leader and that has been the most beautiful thing.”
DeMeco is “grateful” for his wife’s support

While Jamila is proud of her husband, DeMeco also knows that he is fortunate to have a wife who can support him on and off the field.
“My wife is truly special,” he said during an August 2025 appearance on the Chalk Talk podcast. “For me to be able to do what I do, work the hours that I work, as much time as this consumes, she has to wear a lot of hats. She does that really well.”
DeMeco added, “I’m truly thankful and grateful for Jamila and just her spirit, who she is, what she represents, what she’s about. She’s so caring, so loving to everyone, and you can see her heart. She wears her heart on her sleeve. I need that balance. She balances me out very well.”
