NEED TO KNOW
Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri started from Bottoms, now they’re here — and Havana Rose Liu couldn’t be more proud.
Liu, 28, was just one of the many rising stars on the cast of Bottoms, a raunchy, off-beat comedy released in 2023. The cult favorite also starred Ruby Cruz, Kaia Gerber and Nicholas Galitzine — and for Liu, watching all of their stars rise has been nothing short of “so awesome.”
From Edebiri’s award-winning turn in The Bear to Sennott’s hit series I Love LA, the Bottoms cast has been on the up-and-up — and Liu shared her affection for her castmates’ success at the Dec. 2 premiere of her new holiday movie Oh. What. Fun.
“I love all of them so much, and so it’s really cool to really believe in someone and then see just how much that is true, and have everyone else be able to see how beautiful that is and how amazing they are,” the actress told PEOPLE of her Bottoms costars.

“They’re just the most talented cast ever and I felt like we got to work together at a very special time, almost before everyone became these behemoth stars,” Liu added. “And I just feel like it’s been so nice to watch them do their thing.”
Liu also told PEOPLE that, over two years after it hit the box office, Bottoms is still “special to me.”

Since Sennott, 30, starred in Bottoms, which she also co-wrote with director Emma Seligman, she has returned to the big screen in Saturday Night and created and starred in HBO comedy I Love LA, among other projects.

Meanwhile, Galitzine, 31, went on to star in The Idea of You — from Oh. What. Fun. director Michael Showalter — opposite Anne Hathaway, and will be playing He-Man in the upcoming Masters of the Universe movie.
Edebiri, 30, shot to stardom as Sydney in The Bear, with her portrayal of the character earning her an Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild award. Since Bottoms, she has returned to the big screen in Opus, Luca Guadagnino’s After The Hunt and Ella McCay, and established herself as a voice actor in projects like Big Mouth and Inside Out 2.

Cruz, 25, and Gerber, 24, have also stayed busy, most recently starring in The Threesome and Palm Royale season 2, respectively.
Since her turn as Isabel — who gets hilariously tangled in a love triangle with Edebiri and Galitzine’s characters — Liu has starred in several projects, including a Lucy Dacus music video and Martin Scorsese-directed Chanel ad opposite Timothée Chalamet.
In 2025, she appeared in the thriller Lurker, as well as Oh. What. Fun., a Christmas movie starring Michelle Pfeiffer. In the holiday comedy, Liu plays the daughter of Pfeiffer’s on-screen enemy (Joan Chen) and love interest to Dominic Sessa.
Asked who she was most excited to work with in the movie, she told PEOPLE, “You can’t choose. This cast is crazy.”

“It’s just stacked beyond stacked and everyone is so talented and so good and so seasoned at their craft, and I just felt like I was learning from everyone a lot,” Liu said, adding that even fellow Hollywood newcomer Sessa — who received a BAFTA nomination for his 2023 role in The Holdovers — “has a wisdom to him and the way he works.”
“He was my main scene partner, so I have extra praise for him,” added Liu. “But everyone was incredible. And Joan’s such a badass. Everyone was amazing.”
Oh. What. Fun. is streaming now on Prime Video. Bottoms is streaming now on Netflix.
