Zootopia 2 has reached a historic new milestone for Disney.
After a Nov. 26 release, the animal-filled sequel is officially Walt Disney Animation Studios’ highest-grossing animated film in its history. As Variety notes, the film has grossed a whopping $1.46 billion globally so far, surpassing the studio’s 2019 hit Frozen 2, which totaled $1.45 billion.
Ne Zha 2, the Chinese family film released this February, a sequel to 2019’s Ne Zha, has grossed $2.2 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing animated film of all time.
In the last month, Zootopia 2 has racked up multiple records. When it joined the ranks of films that have crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office on Dec. 12, it became the fastest animated Motion Picture Association release and PG-rated film ever to do so. The Jared Bush- and Byron Howard-directed hit also became the fourth-highest global opening ever, the biggest global opening ever for an animated film and the biggest opening weekend for any movie globally in 2025.
