The God of Thunder is back!
In the latest teaser trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, released online Dec. 30, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor appears not only as a superhero, but as a concerned father — and can be seen praying to his own on-screen dad, the late god Odin.
“Father, all my life, I have answered every call to honor, duty, to war. But now fate has given me something I never sought: a child, a life untouched by the storm,” he says solemnly in the new teaser, referring to his adoptive daughter, Love.
Thor appears to pray for a safe return to the young character, who first appeared in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder — and is played by Hemsworth’s real-life daughter India Rose.
“Lend me the strength of the All Fathers, so that I may fight once more,” the hero says in the trailer. “Defeat one more enemy. And return home to her. Not as a warrior, but as warmth. To teach her not battle, but stillness. The kind I never knew.”
“Please Father,” he concludes the heartfelt plea, “heed my words.”

And if the teaser footage was not enough to convince fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) of the character’s return, on-screen text officially confirms the return of the beloved Norse god.
“Thor Will Return in Avengers: Doomsday,” the text reads.
The Thor-centered Doomsday teaser, played before screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash, is the second of its kind. It comes a week after the first, which revealed the return of another original Avenger: Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America.
Rogers’ teaser, released online on Dec. 23, shows the character cradling a newborn baby.

Both Hemsworth, 42, and Evans, 44, began starring as the original Avengers members throughout several MCU projects back in 2011.

Hemsworth famously portrayed Thor in several Marvel movies, beginning with 2011’s Thor, and ending with Taika Waititi-directed Love and Thunder, which left off with the God of Thunder becoming Love’s adoptive father and apparent adventure buddy.
Evans’ turn as Steve Rogers/Captain America, meanwhile, began with 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger and continued through 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. The latter saw Steve as an older man pass down his Captain America shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), after going back in time to reunite with his beloved Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell).
Details about Avengers: Doomsday were announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024, including the updated title and the new villain.
In a standout moment during the Marvel presentation, it was announced that Robert Downey Jr. — who famously played another OG Avenger, Iron Man — would return to the MCU as new big bad Doctor Doom.
It was also confirmed during last year’s Comic-Con that both the Fantastic Four and the Thunderbolts would appear in Avengers 5 and 6. A Marvel livestream later revealed that the returning Doomsday cast also includes Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke and Simu Liu, as well as several members of the X-Men cast — including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn and Kelsey Grammer.
Avengers: Doomsday is in theaters Dec. 18, 2026.
