Taylor Swift reflected on how much recreating a nostalgic moment for the Eras Tour has meant to her.
During episode 6 of The End of an Era docuseries, the pop megastar opens up about the significance of performing “22” during her massive tour — and wearing the black fedora from the Red era.
“The ’22’ moment stems from a hat that I wore on the Red Tour,” Swift, 36, says as footage of her sporting a white T-shirt emblazoned with “Not a lot going on at the moment,” a black fedora and glittery shorts plays. “So, I wanted to really bring back that moment of just kinda like, have a moment with a fan, where I actually get close with them.”

The docuseries then features a montage of Swift kneeling on the ground, hugging fans and putting her hat on their heads.
Swift then reveals that she never knows which child she’ll meet during the shows.
“I’ve got people in the audience scouring the crowd for the first couple of ‘eras,’ trying to find a kid who knows every single word to the songs and having the time of their life at this show,” she says.

According to Swift, “that kid basically is like a representative of every kid in that crowd that night.”
She then notes how it’s fascinating how each child reacts differently when they have their special moment with her.
“It could be, like, a little kid that gets really shy when all of a sudden they’re seeing 60,000 people for the first time. Or, it could be, there are kids that just like bloom under the bright lights, and they’re like, ‘Oh my God I’m a pop star now,'” says Swift.

For the “Opalite” artist, it’s always “so wild” to have these moments with kids in the crowd.
“Everything’s going on around us and somehow we’re able to just have this moment be completely between us,” says Swift. “We’re just meeting each other and everyone else kind of disappears for a second. It just reminds me why I do it.”
Throughout the Eras Tour, Swift has had several sweet interactions with fans during “22.”
At a November 2024 show in Indianapolis, Swift presented her special hat to Eloise, a then-7-year-old Swiftie who she had previously vowed to “totally meet” on an Instagram Live by the little girl’s mom years prior.
During an August 2023 concert in Los Angeles, Swift embraced Vanessa Bryant’s daughter Bianka, then 6½, at the end of the catwalk during “22.”
In April 2023, Swift gave her hat to Selena Gomez’s little sister Gracie at her Arlington, Texas show, as the then-9-year-old handed her something in return.
The final two episodes of The End of an Era docuseries are available to stream on Disney+ now.
