Bam Margera’s son is his motivation to be better.
The Jackass star and former professional skateboarder welcomed his first child, son Phoenix Wolf, in December 2017 with his then-wife Nicole “Nikki” Boyd. On Dec. 23, 2017, the Viva La Bam star shared several photos of his son on Instagram.
The first photo showed new mom Boyd snuggled up with the newborn in the hospital, with Margera simply captioning the post with his baby’s name. A second photo showed Margera holding Phoenix and a third photo showed the stuntman’s father, television personality Phil Margera, visiting his grandson while wearing a Santa suit.
Margera was admittedly anxious in the lead-up to his son’s arrival. “I was really nervous at the beginning, but now I’m getting used to it,” he told PEOPLE. “I’ve had a lot of help from my mom and dad. My brother has five kids already.”
Although Margera and Boyd’s relationship came to an end around the fall of 2021, the former couple continue to co-parent Phoenix. The dad of one was granted supervised visitation rights in December 2023.
Here’s everything to know about Bam Margera’s son, Phoenix Wolf.
His name was decided before he was born

Margera and Boyd had already settled on Phoenix Wolf as their son’s name months before he was born.
“I said it and everybody liked it, so we stuck with that,” Margera explained to PEOPLE in September 2017, adding that the moniker had “just kind of followed” them around.
He has visited Disney World with his dad

Phoenix has previously enjoyed a trip to World Disney World with Margera. In a carousel of photos posted on Instagram in May 2022, the father-of-one shared several snaps of the pair on various rides.
The first photo shows Margera and Phoenix grinning while on a racing car ride, with Phoenix pretending to drive the vehicle. In the second and third photos, the toddler poses in front of the iconic Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom.
“Don’t wait to make your son a great man – make him a great boy,” Margera wrote in the caption.
The father-son duo also attended Warped Tour in Atlantic City in 2019.
He’s interested in skateboarding

Phoenix has an interest in the sport that made his father a household name.
During a September 2019 appearance on Dr. Phil, the MTV star called Phoenix the “raddest kid ever.”
“He’s so interested in skateboarding,” Margera said. “I have all these toys everywhere and he just goes right to the skateboard.”
The dad of one went on to say that Phoenix is “like my best friend and I’ve known him for not even two years.” Margera added, “He’s perfect.”
Margera said that his son saved his life

During his 2019 Dr. Phil interview, Margera opened up about his mental health struggles and how his son inspired him to continue showing up.
“I had such a mental breakdown that I really thought like I … could just go to the lake and be free. I was like, ‘Please just give me back my pain so I could stay because I want to be with [Phoenix],’ ” he said.
The Curious Case of Bam Margera subject has also faced his fair share of struggles with addiction over the years. A representative for Boyd told TMZ in June 2022 that Margera had allegedly fled rehab for a second time because he was worried he wouldn’t be a good father while inside the facility.
However, after fleeing from the rehab center, he was found in a hotel in Deerfield Beach, Fla. As his rehabilitation was court-mandated, Margera was then returned to the wellness center by police and a crisis team.
In a statement to PEOPLE, Boyd said through her attorney, David Glass: “We love Bam, both as a husband and father.”
“We pray that he will give it all he has this time at this new rehab facility,” she continued, “so he can complete his treatment and come home to the family that loves him.”
Margera told Dr. Phil that Phoenix continues to be his north star and encouragement to be sober. “If I didn’t see Phoenix, who knows where I’d be,” he said.
His parents split in 2021, and Margera has since remarried

After almost 10 years together, Margera and Boyd split in the fall of 2021. Over two years later, Boyd filed for divorce.
In December 2023, Margera was granted supervised visitation rights to Phoenix after Boyd previously filed for custody.
At the time, the Jackass star was newly engaged to his now-wife Dannii Marie. In May 2024, the couple married in New Mexico, where they were shooting the movie Collecting Souls.
“To all of our friends and family. We’ve been planning this for a while with the Jim Burlson out here in Socorro New Mexico at this rad historical hotel. Danielle Marie MARGERA, it’s official,” Margera wrote on Instagram, announcing the nuptials.
